As a visual artist, I attempt to represent and resolve concerns, problems, and ideas visually. In this series, I represent one of the most significant issues of this century, the disappearance of our planet earth’s forests.
Some researchers have predicted that by 2030 only 10% of our forests will be left, and this is a frightening thought. In these images, I depict landscapes from Puerto Rico, a tropical island, showing only 10% of the original images. These images make us question not just what they are representing, but also how detached we are from this truth.
When one doesn’t see or feel the¬ increasing tropical deforestation, it is easy to ignore. When the viewer looks at the disappearing landscapes exhibited, I hope that they can both see the beauty of our forest and, at the same time, create a longing for it. Even though it is easy to ignore what we cannot see, it will still affect us.
See here how many forests are left on earth and how they are being destroyed.
